Rhythm, Balance, Scale, Texture

I chose to highlight this piece for this week's emphasis on Rhythm, Balance, Scale, and Texture. This piece was actually created by one of my roommates and I thought this would be a great platform to highlight his work. The painting itself has phenomenal rhythm as we can see the different ways the paint is splattered across the canvas. It's a very interesting concept because it has a chaotic balance to it. As sloppy as it may seem there's a certain beauty to it that catches the viewer's eyes immediately. The scale and texture of this painting seem to be kind of aggressive but has a very gentle tone to it. The way the color's mix is beautiful and reminds me of the American flag.

    The texture of this piece is amazing! The painting is very chaotic yet it still manages to have a beautiful flow. Your description of the painting (aggressive and sloppy but beautiful) followed by your connection to the American flag opens a whole new meaning to the painting that I had not previously thought of.

    This is beautiful. I'm curious about the inspiration behind it. I can understand seeing the American flag, but my first thought was that I saw waves and a shoreline.

    I found this artwork really beautiful. It gives me a sense of calm and intension at the same time. The colors blend into each other really well and I'm curious what message your friend wants to convey through this drawing.

The natural light from the sun really emphasizes the dark nature of the speaker and the contrast is very defining. The speaker is located on top of a window sill which is considered the plane in my photo. If you take a closer look at the window itself, you can see the tiny intricate patterns of lines connecting to create a window screen. An argument can be made that the point at the beginning of the speaker and the point at the end of the speaker signify a line across the window sill plane. I chose to emphasize the speaker because music is a big part of my life. I've learned to play the guitar and have heard many songs on this speaker that have influenced me to replicate

Framing

Or at least it is a figure which comes away of its own accord."~ Jacques Derrida Ceiling For this project, I chose to photograph the ceiling of my room. This picture portrays framing in the sense that each tile square is framed out from another tile square. We can see the borders that separate each tile from another. Although this may seem bland and boring I like to look at this picture in a different way. The separation of these tiles creates an organized and solid foundation for the ceiling. Together they create a solid and complete wall whereas one would do nothing on its own. "A well-designed interface is both visible and invisible," (Lupton 100). This photo embodies this quote by Lupton because the framing of the ceiling could go unnoticed hence the similar color scheme between the tiles and the borders separating each tile.
